what just happened?

I don't understand.

It started last year, a few at first, but the last few days I was in a foreign-language film binge- at the top of my head that I can remember atm were titles like: Das Boot, Europa Europa, Les Choristes, Kongen av Bastøy, Au Revoir Les Enfants, Paradise Now, Stalker (1979), The 400 Blows, Napola, The Return- and Irish/UK films like Scum, ...if, Saving the Titanic, Song for a Raggy Boy, Hunted, Green Street Hooligans.  After seeing those, I don't think I can view Hollywood films the same way again. Somehow, Hollywood films turn out to be truly, mostly, for Americans.

I just saw the trailer for The Book Thief, yeah better late than never, and I hated it. It looks like fucking Hugo.
Usually I'd be excited about a movie that 'looks' like that, and more importantly set in WWII, but not this time. It was at this moment I realized how disappointing those kinds of movies were.

There are only three recent Hollywood movies I'd like to see; Rush because F1, Snowpiercer and Gravity.
Of course there are and will always be good ones, and I will get some more to watch -right now more from circa 1990's to early 2000's, as well as finish The Hobbit and Adventures of Tin Tin movies, oh and a few documentaries here and there.
If they still make movies by way of The Cure, The Shining, The Piano, The Pianist, Titanic, Star Wars Ep 4-6, and the likes, then count me in.
But now nothing looks exciting. I am disillusioned, even superhero movies lost its appeal. (ToT)
I'm not a film snob at all lol. I totally adore and still adore; Psycho Beach Party, Starship Troopers, The Lost Boys, Watchmen, White Chicks, Cloverfield, Dead Man on Campus, Valkyrie, Dredd, Immortals, to name a few. Actually, there are many Hollywood films that I love that were made recently, but right now majority of them seem so unimportant and stupid compared to movies being made at different countries around the world haha. Don't ask me why, don't know it myself!
Well unless they're Stephen King adaptations, serious war-themed movies, or Life of Pi,  then they aren't stupid at all.
Oh and not to forget, I still don't like American mainstream indie films lol, just to be clear.

I found it also amazing that foreign language films are more effective in story-telling because the actors are unrecognizable to me! How weird for me, when I 'usually' go watch films for the people on the screen ..but not anymore. :D
Granted that there are German, French and Norwegian thespians that you also see in Hollywood, but they are only a few and really are different when speaking/performing in their native tongue.
Yes, even the Irish and British are just so refreshing when the films are just so, well, Irish and British.
Seen Blitz? Jason Statham was soooo normal lol, so at home.
For sure, most of the actors I've seen in these films were new-comers and don't have enough experience, but right now I prefer them.

That's why I'm on the hunt, for a month maybe, to download get my hands on as many titles as I can. There are so many films out there; wonderful works from Greece, Turkey, Iran, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, Japan, UK, etc. SERIOUSLY. It's overwhelming how there are so many great films that are yet to be seen by the majority only because they weren't Hollywood.
I grew up watching Hollywood, with a few exceptions of Japanese and Korean movies, that's all I've ever known. Thank you Youtube, he introduced me to the world theater.

Gosh, my list is really long.
